Business professionals,

What do the following names mean to you?

  • Facebook
  • Instagram
  • Snapchat
  • Twitter
  • YouTube

The following names should scream opportunity, as that is preciously what they represent for your brand. While building a presence on social media is time consuming, certain shortcuts are not worth consideration as they provide nothing for your investment.

These pitfalls include purchasing:

  • Followers
  • Likes
  • Subscribers
  • Views

Spending money on any of those options provides nothing for your business. Purchased followers (Twitter), Likes (Facebook), and Subscribers (YouTube) are what I call “shell” accounts that are not going to engage with your posts nor are they ever going to sign up for email campaigns or ever purchase any of your products.

So don’t waste money on them.

Each New Follower Is Valuable

Would you prefer to have 600 followers where 70% are engaging on your posts or 6,000 followers who only looked at your profile once after being paid to do so? This is why there is no benefit to spending money on click farms. However, nearly all social media platforms offer the ability to promote your accounts resulting in new followers who are interested in your company.

Each new follower on you social media platforms should be viewed as a potential customer and a strategy to convince each to sign up for your various email lists needs to be in place. Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube provide creative ways to engage potential leads where you can offer discounts and numerous other offers to provoke users to give you their email information.

Facebook and Twitter provide the opportunity for companies to direct craft a gimmick for their brand. Wendy’s accomplishes this by interacting with wrestling fans; other brands take a similar approach.

Why Build a Gimmick?

Because it creates interest for your brand, so many companies have bland social media presences which post robotic post after another which do not catch the eye of many. Yet, crafting a small gimmick for your brand which helps them to relate to your brand immediately increases your awareness and helps with word of mouth advertising.

The gimmick of your brand doesn’t have to be something elaborate; instead a simple approach could work well and help bring in more leads outside of your original target audience. The 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs twitter is known for their light hearted and engagement with the fan base.

Simple can be quite effective.
