4 Ways Small Businesses Can Improve Their Social Media Presence

Social media is often viewed as a monster that needs to be fed rather than a networking tool that can boost your business. How you frame it mentally might be affecting your likeliness to post and impacting your relationship to current and potential customers. 1. Post Content Consistently 

You can’t make new friends if you don’t talk to them. As simple as it may seem, posting content is necessary for getting more likes, shares, and insights. Post 2-3 times a week to start. As a general rule, 80% should be original content- written about your business by your business and 20% can be reposting other people’s content- articles that apply to your field, market insights, and helpful tips that match your esthetic and vision.

 

2. Comment on other people’s posts

Comments are conversation. If the goal of social media for your business is to network, then you need to participate in the conversation with both current and future customers. 

 

Not sure what to say? Just be sure to acknowledge anyone who mentions your company and thank them for being a customer. If you know them personally it’s okay to write a little more, but remember, this is not your personal account. (More on that in #4)

 

3. Make sure all content is high quality and beneficial

Content should tell your customer about the features of your product/service or the benefits they get from using it. Market insights, promos, and team announcements are other categories of posts that are beneficial. Every social media interaction is an opportunity to build your company image and direct traffic to your website. Before posting, always make sure any pictures used aren’t fuzzy and that everything is spelled correctly.

 

4. Keep all content on brand

This is your business account, not your personal one. Always ask yourself: Does this post reflect my company or me? Is this my personal opinion about ____ or is it my company’s statement regarding a topic that applies directly to our industry? If social media is a tool for networking then all conversations should keep the business in mind.
