Google Ads is a vast and often confusing avenue for digital marketing. There are many moving parts that make up the application and constantly updating. Mostly everyone knows about keywords and how they are important, but not many non digital marketers know about negative keywords. Negative keywords are arguably even more important than regular keywords. We talk about what negative keywords are, and how they can help bring success when it comes to Pay-Per-Click.

Google Ads 101

Google Ads is one of the most important tools a digital marketer can use to gain more conversions and reach a wider audience. The app allows businesses to promote their products and services when users search for relevant keywords on Google. The search engine currently makes up about 92% of all searches on the internet. With that size of an audience, you would be doing your business a disservice if you didn’t have some sort of presence on Google. If implemented correctly, Google Ads has the potential to grow leads and sales exponentially.

Keywords

Keywords are words or phrases that users search for. These words can be added to your business’s campaign to match your ads with the terms people are searching for. Finding high quality, relevant keywords with not alot of competition for your advertising campaign can help you get in front of the customers you want.

Negative Keywords

Keywords help you get in front of searchers looking for your business or service. Negative keywords do the exact opposite. Negative keywords help you exclude users that you don’t want seeing and clicking your ad. Here’s an example: Imagine you’re a foundation company, one of your keywords could be “foundation repair”. This is a great keyword to get you in front of people looking for home foundation repairman, but without any negative keywords to exclude anything, your ad could show up when searching for makeup foundation. This is just one example of the limitless possibilities how keywords can help save your business money, and increase your reach!
