Mischke Hand Therapists
Pretoria

Welcome to Mischke Hand Therapists
The home of hand and upper limb therapy in Pretoria

Hand therapy involves the rehabilitation of the upper limb – elbow, wrist and hand. Hand therapy assists a person to regain maximum use of his or her upper limb after injury, surgery or the onset of disease.

Treatment is provided by a hand therapist, who is first trained as an occupational therapist and then obtained a post graduate qualification in the rehabilitation of hand and upper limb conditions.

Hand therapists treat patients through mobilisation, massage, exercises, activity participation and custom-made splints to encourage healing of the hand and upper limb and enable you to perform your required functional daily tasks.

On the 12th of March 2021 on my way to work, I was attacked and robbed, in the process I was hacked by a machete on my left arm, I was bleeding profusely and if not for the effort of my employer the worst could have happened. I had to undergo a 5 hour procedure to repair the damage done as i had 2 nerves and 5 tendons severed, of main concern was the radial nerve which was cut through, after surgery and later discharge i left the hospital with no feeling whatsoever in my arm and at best slight twitches in one or two fingers. The Surgeon said to me ” I must be honest with you, there is a 50% chance your arm will ever work again but it will take up to 9 months to know “. I believed in my heart that no matter how minimal the chance I have I would take it and with God on my side nothing is impossible, days went by there was little or no movement but I remained hopeful, the finger twitches became more pronounced but there was still a long road ahead as I was still experiencing wrist drop, I could not keep my wrist upright and neither could I control it in any kind of way, that is when i got the good fortune of hearing of an offer to assist me from Isabel Mischke who offered to help me with my hand therapy pro bono.

I conclude by appreciating all the efforts and therapy and time that Isabel has invested in getting me back to 100%, her passion for her job is like nothing iv seen, Its countless times I’ve heard her casually mention how much she loves her job. I now know for a fact that angels do exist in human form.

Dr Erich Mennen

I have been working at Kloof hospital with Isabel Mischke for the past 18 years. Isabel and her dedicated team are an integral part of my hand surgery practice. My patients with hand injuries can no longer be treated without the care and management that they, as my hand therapy team, provide. I will recommend Mischke hand Therapists to anyone with a hand condition or injury.

Thanks to Isabel, a potential “Career Ending” injury was reduced to only a few months of no riding. Like all athletes, I live for my sport and my injury was a huge disruption in my life, Isabel being a successful athlete could relate to my frustration and managed to keep me positive and upbeat. The Staff at Mischke made me feel like I was part of a family, with genuine concern regarding my progress and wellbeing on my road to recovery.
