Here are 5 steps to nearly guarantee an amazing year.
(Each more challenging but each more rewarding)
Step 1: Start with the 99-1's. These are your decisions that you can make with 99% certainty they're right. For me, it's being consistent with daily exercise & no social media on my phone. No second-guessing, just straight wins.
Step 2: Progress to the 51-49's. As you gain confidence and awareness whilst you make those first decisions you can start to make your way down harder decisions. For example - should you be having caffiene? What time should you be waking up? If there is more deliberation it can be hard to start with these decisions.
Some of those for me are ditching caffeine (I'm caffeine free this year) or no YouTube/TV without the company of friends.
Step 3: Addition by Subtraction. Audit your time. Daily, weekly, take a hard look at your schedule & your screen time.
Ask yourself: What's just filler? What's not serving my purpose or time I'm proud about? As you remove you start to create more space. When you have that extra time I think of it as "magic time" – that's often where all the success I've had comes from. You're down with the Todo's and now can do something out of the box to help you move to your goals that might really move the needle.
Step 4: Scheduled Reflection. Lock it in your calendar – daily, weekly, quarterly. As you evolve, you'll start seeing things in your life you never noticed before. Daily, take stock at 5 pm: What could you have done better today? What's your 1 task for tomorrow that if you complete you will be proud?
Weekly - Again, what is your 1 thing to ensure you complete this week?
Quarterly, zoom out: Are you still aligned to your bigger mission? How are you living?
Step 5: Set 3-4 Alarms a Day. Use these are your checkpoints. In those moments, ask yourself three things:
In the last time block: What am I proud of? What could've been better? What's would make the next block a win?
These are my current 5 big needle movers after the above reflections:
- Waking up early (6:30am)
- Daily reflections & Sunday check-ins
- Eating ~90-100% on plan
- Exercise daily
- No Social Media, YT, Games, TV (except with friends)
Commit to these steps, and watch how an extraordinary year unfolds.
