Acision (NASDAQ: MESG, now Mavenir) is a global mobile communications software company developing SMS/MMS, voicemail, IP messaging, enterprise mobility solutions. Our first project for Acision was a web-based messaging front-end, built on a tight timeframe. This project utilizes PHP/JS stack, Acision platform as a backend, and LDAP address book. Also, we performed the branding of the user interface according to the operator's standards. Since then, we have helped Acision build a number of modern web portals servicing millions of subscribers of the world-leading mobile network operators. We also leveraged our expertise in communication protocols and technologies to optimize Acision's messaging infrastructure. In subsequent projects we did: - Viewing/managing/transcoding MMS audio and video messages. - Postfix MTA scripts for tracking message traffic. - Building custom Linux RPM packages for the deployment of customized server components. We asked Sergey Buravov, Project Manager, at Mavenir at the time, to share his experience of working with us: "Afterlogic.Works's ability to provide on-site and online support and maintenance for up to 24x7 level is also the important factor for us, helping us build and run the platforms which serve hundreds of millions of people worldwide."

A Thai startup in the logistics industry chose us to develop a web system which automates cargo shipping, from finding truckers and placing an order to tracking the cargo being shipped. The system is built around bidding principle - the customer places a bid "what needs to be shipped, from and where" while truckers respond with their prices. This approach gives customers access to trusted providers who compete for their business, so, as a customer, you can pick your price and ship with confidence. For customers, it features secure payments, smart shipping, and easy tracking of cargo. For truckers, it performs validation of their licenses and all accompanying documents (only certified providers will be allowed to respond to bids). Machine learning is utilized to predict a typical price of a shipment (based on previous samples of similar shipments) so that a customer can get the idea of the costs beforehand. Other features include mobile version and feedback system to rate customers and providers. The project is written in PHP, MySQL, Laravel, Vue.js #business #php #mysql #startup #machinelearning

Although here at Afterlogic.Works we're mostly doing web development work, we're also providing consultancy and code review services. A client reached out to us with an existing project and needed someone qualified to audit it in terms of code quality, architecture, methodologies. They also wanted to know whether their structure is sound and if the employed libraries and standards are up to date. Our team assigned two senior developers, a front-end and back-end, for this task. They've checked the code for compatibility with existing best practices such as PSR, The Twelve-Factor App, SOLID, KISS, DRY, Zend, and the best Design patterns. After our research, we've proposed two possible solutions: a faster one to fix the current version, and a longer one (more fundamentally sound) which would require changes to the architecture of the app. We made a detailed document for the client where we included our view of the architecture, all of our analysis, recommendations for testing and CI/CD, and most importantly, advice on the best way to move forward with the project. Not sure you're moving in the right direction with your project? Wondering if your architecture is correct, code quality is up to par, CI/CD is implemented correctly? If so, contact us, we're ready to help.

WordPress or CloudCannon - which one to choose? “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication,” said Leonardo da Vinci. Although da Vinci never used a website, you can rely on his wisdom when choosing between different kinds of CMS for your website. Today the most popular CMS choice is WordPress - the ecosystem around it has led to a whole world of plugins that help people get more out of this CMS, but that doesn't mean there is no room for new solutions. Imagine being approached by a client with a request to pick a CMS which is simple to use, has a unique website design, and which is suitable exactly for their target audience. If the first thing you suggest is WordPress just because “everyone uses WordPress, right?”, then probably this is the point when you need to take a small pause and think more about such an important choice. Now it’s a good time to consider an alternative, and see how other CMSs can help you with your projects.   If you ask us, we've already had a chance to work with another type of CMS - CloudCannon - and noted several advantages: - CloudCannon offers a free developer plan and a free comprehensive headless CMS. You can use CloudCannon's Git-based headless CMS to collaborate with your team and reduce the build time.  - Designers are not constrained by rigid templates and can create a site reflecting their talents, rather than the site limited by their tools.  - Finally, and perhaps most importantly, content creators and marketers gain full ownership of the site. The writing room makes it easy to create unique pages using components and designs created by your developers and designers, without feeling like you're just using the same old template for every page. Just think about it. You create the site you want, the way you want, and then let non-technical users manage it. Your developers can focus on your product. Your content creators and marketers can do their job without waiting for someone else to help them. To sum it up, although Wordpress might be the most popular or obvious choice, we suggest going through the pros and cons of CloudCannon or other alternatives before making your choice, since they may turn out to be a better fit for your needs. And no, we are not associated with CloudCannon in any way :)

Stuttgart International Wine Competition (SIWC) hired us to make an app for organizing competitions. Wine and spirits judging process was a complex story where the staff managed hundreds of bottles, assigned each flight (set of glasses) to panels, judges tasted drinks and filled lots of papers. Then they all were manually entered into database to know the winners and prepare the next round. And now the magic happens. Online registration, autogenerated PDF files for including into a package with the samples. A competition management person opens our app, assigns judges, sets tables, creates flights, prints stickers for the bottles. Now the manager is good to go and can start the competition. Judges no longer need to fill in tons of papers, neither organizers need to manually copy data from these papers to calculate competition scores. Each judge has a tablet running our web app where with just a few clicks the judgement is complete and so are the scores. Olivera Markovic, SIWC Executive Director, adds: "Relying on Afterlogic as our development partner let us successfully transform our idea into a working application and ecosystem behind it, avoid common pitfalls, and gain confidence that this project stays in safe hands in terms of long-term support." #data #development #management #project
