In December, we surveyed 1008 people to understand their usage and perception of the #metaverse. We learned several surprising facts about how people engage with it.

For example, we discovered that:

- 52% of respondents do not engage with the metaverse at all.

- Of those who do engage, most commonly used platforms like @minecraft (16%), @fortnite (10%), and @roblox (8%) are focused on entertainment.

- 84% of metaverse users reported using platforms for personal enjoyment above all else, despite the ability for some to make considerable earnings.

- Just 1.5% of respondents reported using HorizonWorld, Meta's own metaverse platform.

- Only 3% of respondents reported engaging with the metaverse specifically for professional reasons.

Though the potential for the metaverse is vast and exciting, widespread adoption of a metaverse for anything other than fun isn’t in the cards at the moment.

It’s every entrepreneur’s dream to be able to offer something that becomes successful, especially when there is a strong emotional connection. Matt Krause was able to experience both by seeking us out to build his music discovery platform, bodrop. This iOS app uses Spotify (and now, Apple Music) to provide a social media-like experience for users to connect and share or view posts that connect to streams. It also features a recommendation engine that learns user tastes to promote new music.
