WordPress Updates and Upkeep

A neglected WordPress site is bad news, especially if it is critical to your business. Keeping your website in good shape means less work for you and your visitors. Website maintenance is more than simply monitoring broken links and tracking site analytics. WordPress core upgrades and plugin updates are two of the most critical things you can do for the health of your website. These updates are frequently forgotten or even disregarded, which can result in anything from a sluggish admin interface to a virus-infected site packed with malware. How frequently should your WordPress core and plugins be updated?  The short answer is, as frequently as possible! Your website is an essential component of your business’s marketing strategies. Let’s go over the advantages of a well-maintained website and why focusing on these changes will keep your site healthy in the long run (at least until the next update). Increased Security According to Techjury.net, there are over 455 million sites using WordPress. With WordPress controlling such a high market share, hackers and spammers will always pose a concern. Hackers can steal information, publish improper content without your will, or altogether take down a website. Hackers and malware, like your website, are continuously developing. To combat this, WordPress releases regular core updates that ensure your site’s defenses are up to date and free of exploitable vulnerabilities. The more updates you have, the more secure your site gets. So, just as we wouldn’t skip a day of brushing our teeth to avoid cavities, you can’t skip a core update without jeopardizing the health of your site. Similarly to how core updates preserve your website’s heart, plugin and theme upgrades protect its integrations and advanced functionalities. According to WPScan, outdated WordPress plugins were responsible for 52% of WordPress vulnerabilities, while outdated WordPress themes were responsible for 11% of the vulnerabilities. It’s not surprising, then, that 86% of hacked WordPress websites featured outdated versions of WordPress plugins and themes, according to WPBeginner. Fixes for bugs Sometimes, you may see things like a broken link, random html code, a slideshow no longer displaying, or a section of content no longer displaying properly on the page. Many times, the solution to problems like this on your website is as simple as updating the plugins. To keep your website functioning properly, plugins, themes, and WordPress must all work together. Therefore, leaving one behind can cause all of them to malfunction. Sometimes the problems with your website are caused by something more serious, but most of the time, a simple update will suffice. Compatibility Your website will not function properly until plugins, themes, and WordPress core all get along. Plugin and theme developers frequently coordinate updates with WordPress core upgrades to ensure that they take advantage of any new features and make it as simple as possible for you to get everything up to date and operating again. Staying current will result in all website elements working in unison. New Functions Updates to plugins and core code frequently include new features and enhanced performance. The core development team is always introducing features that make WordPress easier to use and modify faster. Similarly, plugin developers will add new features that give enhanced functionality or a more user-friendly interface. Not only will updating your website, plugins, and themes maintain them safe and responsive, but it will also make them easier to use, and better! Performance and Speed Everyone desires a faster website. Not only is speed vital in SEO, but it is also important in maintaining site visitors. Each new WordPress core release includes performance improvements that reduce page load speeds and make the site more efficient overall. Updating your plugins concurrently ensures that every element of your site receives these performance enhancements while still retaining the functionality that you intended. Finally, upgrades help your website run faster and more efficiently. This is critical because most visitors will only give you eight seconds of their time, so make the most of it. With Creatively Seeded’s Hosting Services, you can eliminate the guesswork and stress. We recognize that knowing you should do something is one thing, but having the time or capacity to do so is another. Fortunately, we’re here to assist. 3 Reasons Why You Need to Hire a Copywriter

So you have a fantastic website design, and your social media graphics are killing it! But what good are they if you’re not sharing quality written content with your audience? Content is what is going to keep your audience coming back for more and is what is going to make them invest in your business and your brand. As content becomes increasingly more important in communicating and building an engaged audience, many find that they don’t have the time to grow this aspect of their brand. This is where a copywriter comes in, and today we’re sharing three reasons why you need to hire a copywriter. Focus Should be on the Customer When you hire a copywriter, they take on the heavy lifting of creating content for your website, social media, and any other assets you need copy for. This means you’ll have more time to engage with your customers, which is vital in growing your business. A copywriter can take your ideas and turn them into compelling, quality content. At the same time, you focus on the customers and how you can assist them. A New Perspective As a business owner and brand, it’s easy to fall into a routine with your content, which includes repeatedly using the same language and running out of fresh ideas to express your brand. A copywriter brings a new outside perspective to your business, and they come with ideas and new ways to appeal to your audience. It’s a fresh voice that still embodies and represents your business. Copywriters are also great at listening to your ideas, taking them, and working them into something fantastic you may not have thought of. By bringing an outsider’s perspective, they’re also uniquely poised to understand the questions and views of your audience and potential customers, allowing them to craft content for that buyer expertly. Copywriters Get to know You and Your Competitors. A copywriter will take the time to get to know your company, goals, ideal customer, and how you want to communicate with your audience. They also take the time to understand what your competitors are doing. They look at what’s working well and what’s not. This helps your copywriter understand the strengths and weaknesses related to your content. All of this helps them develop the perfect content for your brand. There are many reasons why hiring a copywriter is a brilliant business move. A good copywriter takes the time to ensure that your content is error-free and will rank well on search engines. A bonus reason to hire a copywriter is that they are great with grammar and understand how important it is to have good grammar! The last thing you want is your website and social media content to be full of grammar and spelling mistakes. When hiring a copywriter, keep an eye out for one with experience in your business’s niche. Don’t be scared to ask them what type of content they would recommend for your business. Copywriters write for a living, and writing is their area of expertise, but so is bringing your ideas to life! What is SEO, and Why do You Need it?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is about making your website more visible. To put it as simply as possible, using keywords will help your website rank higher in search engines when people are looking for products and services related to your business. When getting started with SEO, it’s essential to do a keyword analysis to ensure you’re using the right keywords to gain traction on the search engine of choice, typically Google. There are various ways to do this research. For example, search words you want to use and see what other search options appear in the search bar. This gives you a better idea of what terms people are searching for. You can also use paid services or hire someone that focuses on creating SEO content for your website and social media. Why You Need SEO Although SEO focuses on getting more traffic to your website, there’s more to it. It is not only about getting your website higher up in search engines. It’s also about making your site better. Making your web page better and structuring it in a search-engine-friendly way makes it easier for people who visit your page. Taking the time and effort to make your website search-engine-friendly and focusing on SEO means engaging more users who use the major search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Using SEO enables you to access a significant number of people, and it can exponentially increase your sales or traffic to your site. Think of it this way. How often do you use a search engine to look something up? Many people will use a search engine more than ten times a day. When your site is considered appropriate and vital by a search engine, your page will be higher in the results, making it more likely to be clicked by the searching individual. When your website gains popularity and has proper keywords and phrases, your website becomes accessible, relevant, and essential, all of which are keys to SEO. Other Ways to Optimize Your Website Ensuring your website is optimized using keywords is vital in getting seen when someone searches for your services. Using keywords in URLs, heading tags, title tags, and correctly tagging information on your website means your site is found more easily and loads quicker. Backlinks are of equal importance. Backlinks are exactly what they sound like; links on other sites that point back to your site! Anytime your website link is posted or shared on another site, say in a guest blog, and it points back to your website, it optimizes your website even more. SEO is a fantastic way to get more people to see your website. It does not matter if you sell a service or product or have a blog that you want people to see. SEO is the way to get more traffic to your site. Share your questions about SEO in the comments or contact me to see how I can help you with your business’s SEO! 5 Reasons Why You Should Support Local Small Businesses

There’s no doubt that you’ve heard about shopping local before, but the “Shop Local” trend has taken off in recent years. You probably think of local gift shops and small stores when you hear shop local. It would be best to keep in mind that countless small businesses outside of retail make up your community. I’m talking about the realtors, the graphic designers, and everyone in between. Small business owners work hard to ensure that your experience is positive and often put their all into their businesses. There are tons of reasons why you should support your local small businesses. Still, today, I want to highlight my top five reasons you should support local small businesses. You’re Supporting the Local Economy When you spend money locally at small businesses, money can be cycled back into your community. Many local businesses give back to the communities they are a part of, which can take the form of scholarships or holding local events. All of which help to develop the local economy. Local Jobs Keeping small local businesses open and prosperous means they’ll be looking for additional help! Local business often means local jobs with better wages and benefits than large corporations and retailers. The more successful a small business is, the more likely it will need to expand its capabilities, which often means more employees. This also means that these new employees won’t be commuting to jobs outside their local area. They will be more likely to spend money locally as they won’t be spending time elsewhere for their job. Builds Community Relationships Have you ever walked down the main street of a small town and noticed how closely knit all business owners seem? Locations that have local small businesses often have a stronger sense of community. Not to mention that they have better economic and social relationships as well. When you support local small businesses, you’re also creating that same sense of well-being in your community. Small businesses embody the “Community over Competition” mindset. Makes Your Town and Community Stand Out Nothing adds more character to a city than its small businesses. They add so much character and success to a community and provide unique experiences to those in the community and those visiting. A unique and inviting downtown area with local businesses is a beautiful way to market and share your community with others. Your Supporting Future Growth Shopping locally and supporting local businesses is the best way to show pride in your city. You’re also protecting those businesses by being a loyal customer. Small businesses rely on their customers to help spread the word and share their experiences. This helps bring in new customers, which allows them to grow. Take pride in your city and your local businesses, and keep your city unique and successful! I can’t express enough how important it is to support small businesses. They are vital to the growth and expansion of your city! What is Your Visual Brand Identity and Why is it Important?

It’s a new year, and you’re probably thinking about revamping your business. Am I right? Well, if that’s the case, this blog is just what you need! Part of any brand is its visual identity. Having a strong visual identity is vital as you start revamping or updating your business. What is a Visual Brand Identity? Let’s talk about your visual brand identity and why it’s an essential part of your business. To start off, let me explain what your visual brand identity is. Firstly, your visual identity is how you present your business through visible elements such as graphics, typography, color palette, imagery, and more. Secondly, it’s vital to communicate your business to your audience based on emotional communication through colors and imagery. For instance, did you know certain colors inherently represent a word or emotion? For example, the color blue is associated with trust and loyalty. Similarly, it’s also know for it’s calming effects and often represents harmony. Using blue in your branding can help position your brand as trustworthy, reliable, and safe. Think about how specific images and colors make you feel. That’s the basis of your visual identity. How do you want your audience to feel when they see the imagery and graphics representing your brand? When you work with a graphic designer, we help bring all of these elements together in your brand, across all platforms. Take a look at some of the ways we’ve provided brand identity for Jamie Collins Photography. My top tips for developing a solid visual brand are: Make it Memorable to make an impression, and your audience keeps thinking about it. Flexibility is vital so that your visual brand works across all mediums, including web and print. Consistency and Cohesiveness are a must to ensure that every piece of your visual brand works together. Why is Your Visual Brand Identity Important? Your visual brand is what keeps your customers and your audience coming back. Think about how many times you’ve just been scrolling through social media and someone’s logo or graphic has made you stop, just based on the colors. This is why visual branding is essential! You’re creating an emotional impression with your audience. Before they know it, they’ll be associating specific colors with your brand. This means your audience is more likely to purchase your products and services. Another reason why visual brand identity is so important because it unifies your brand across all aspects and mediums. I can’t explain how important consistency is for your brand. It keeps your brand looking clean and professional. Moreover, there’s no confusion about the nature of your brand and services. Here are my top three (3) tips for building a solid visual identity: Know your ideal client/audience and what will appeal to them. This includes demographics, habits, and behaviors. Know your Why. A clear mission statement helps build your visual brand identity. It provides a clear path on the graphics and visuals to use. What emotions are you looking to evoke with your brand? Do you want your customers to feel happy, excited, creative, trusting? Knowing the feeling (s) you want your audience to feel plays a huge part in determining your color palette. Are you ready to revamp your visual brand identity? We’d love to help you out! Get in touch with us today to start the process! A Glimpse into the New Ink

“Our bodies were printed as blank pages to be filled with the ink of our hearts.” ~ Michael Biondi For their connection to the design personally. Lots of people get tattoos that symbolize something more profound in their own lives. As an extension of themselves, who they are, what they’ve been through. To tick off their parents.  In our 40s now, Paula and I giggled over the fact that even adults note that they may be getting tattoos to tick off their parents. This was not even on my list of reasons why!  I was drawn to the symbolism and the story behind the lion. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’m pretty big into symbolism over here. Have you read how passionately I feel about seeds of faith? So why DID I choose my new design – My Lion? The Symbolism Behind The Lion Lions can signify many things, but the most common are: Strength Protection  Courage Leadership In addition, the lion’s spirit encourages one to speak the truth. As the wise saying goes, “Speak out, even if your voice shakes.” If you are faced with a situation and crushed by self-doubt, remember to summon your inner lion or lioness. Much the same as the wolf and the bear power animals, the lion protects those it holds dear. For example, if someone you love is being mistreated in any way, summon the full power of your inner lion to defend them. In some cases, the person needing protection may even be you! The Lion From The Bible In God’s Word, lions are symbols of courage and power. These are necessary things for Christians to have in their arsenal. In addition, Christians believe in taking care of each other and helping each other, just like the lion. Lions Take the Lead If a lion has made itself known to you, it can signify that you need to step up and take the lead. Following can be easier than leading. But, the noble lion should inspire you to LEAD.  Stand proudly and lead from the front, just as the most remarkable leaders throughout history have done. Lions Signify Pride The pride of the lion prompts you to be proud of who you are, where you came from, and what you know. Every challenge, every blessing, every battle scar, and every celebration can be used to propel yourself to something greater. Lions Signify Loyalty & Family If the lion is your spirit animal, your innate nature is to hold your extended family (whether they’re blood family or chosen family) close to you. They are cherished, and you would go to great lengths to help and protect them. Lions Are Affectionate While lions can weigh over 400 pounds, they are still just big kitty cats at heart. Lions are every bit as cuddly and affectionate as your pet cats (which if you follow me at all, you know how much I LOVE cats).  The lion’s spirit reminds you that even though the world requires fierceness, you shouldn’t ever forget to be affectionate and cuddly with those you love. Lions Take the Lead In God’s Word, lions are symbols of courage and power. These are necessary things for Christians to have in their arsenal. In addition, Christians believe in taking care of each other and helping each other, just like the lion. The Female Lion May Even Be Better (But The Two Of Us With Our Combined Six Daughters May Be Biased!) A lioness tattoo, in general, encompasses much of the same meaning as a male lion.  A lioness can be an equally powerful symbol of strength, protection, and loyalty. A lioness tattoo’s meaning revolves around notions of feminine strength and courage, as well as motherhood. What “The Lion” Means to Me “If people are honest with themselves when they choose a tattoo, the art will represent them better than anything that will ever come out of their mouth. The things that are most important to me are represented in the art that covers my body.My God, my family, my friends, my job, my social and historical beliefs and the aggressive or even violent nature with which I will protect all of them…..basically in that order of importance.” ~ Troy Holloway This lion design, to me, signifies strength and courage. Having gone through my recent divorce, I am stronger, have more courage, and have rebuilt my confidence as a single mom – and as a person, in general. I’ve learned I can stand on my own two feet (with God, of course). “The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.” ~ Proverbs 28:1 NIV I’ve learned to stand my ground, enforce my boundaries, and stay true to my convictions. I’ve learned to be proud of who I am. I’ve learned to showcase my lion attitude. I’d love to hear from you! What new project are you taking on right now that we can help you conquer like lions? What steps are you taking in faith? This month, I did something. It’s been in the works for a while. And it means so, so much to me. Last week, I took a little road trip down to Omaha and got a new tattoo. (I didn’t even stop to see Paula since she lives there. True story. We were both bummed!) But this wasn’t just any tattoo. This one has an incredible amount of meaning and thought behind it. It was born out of a rough year – er, years.  I asked Paula to help me write up the meaning behind this new bit of color in my life to share the story with all of you. But Paula doesn’t do tattoos, so the very first thing she thought of was, “Hey, I should Google why someone gets tattoos.” To her, the thought of needles is vomit-acular (yes, that’s a word!).  So in Paula’s research (on PsychologyToday, no less!), she found out that people get tattoos: For their […] The post A Glimpse into the New Ink appeared first on Creatively Seeded | Website Design & Hosting, Graphic Design, Social Media Marketing & Print.

7 Reasons To Opt For a Professional Graphic Designer

Professional graphic designer or DIY? What a conundrum! When your car breaks down, do you pop the hood yourself or send it to a mechanic? If you feel sick, do you only Google your symptoms or go to the doctor? When your dishwasher breaks down, do you rip it apart yourself to find the problem? Probably not, right? Then why do you try to do professional graphic design projects yourself if this isn’t your area of expertise? Oh, we know why… Because you are, first and foremost, an entrepreneur, a small business owner. And we, as small business owners, LOVE to wear all the hats – even if it’s so that we can save a little money!  But the main problem with being your own graphic design department is that it takes you a long time to finish those projects. Plus, it doesn’t look as professional as hiring a pro.  As one marketer put it: “Graphic design….You could try to do it yourself. Design a “logo” for your business or organization. Throw together a “website.” The only problem is, everyone who sees your handy work will admire your do-it-yourself attitude but look upon your ugly-duckling logo with underwhelmed confusion. Your “free” logo will look like… well, a free logo.” You don’t want your brand remembered for its DIY spirit. You want your brand recognized for creativity, excellence, and professionalism!  Hiring a professional graphic designer can get you there.  Daily, we talk with a prospective client or someone at a networking event who is still deciding to work with a professional graphic designer.  We offer them these X reasons why it will be one of the most intelligent business decisions they’ll ever make: Saves You Time As an entrepreneur, what is your time worth?  You have a lot on your plate. This means you may be putting off a new marketing piece, even if it is something you need. Hiring a designer can have a project completed in a fraction of the time it would take for you to do it yourself.  Saves You Money Yes, of course, a great professional graphic designer can cost you some money upfront, but working with a professional saves you money in the long run. When a business doesn’t take its marketing and branding seriously, it will more than likely go through at least one design overhaul — if not more. However, good design has longevity.  By paying for great design, you are saving yourself from repeatedly paying for subpar design. Another factor is that a professional graphic designer will know the most cost-effective ways to design your materials. They will likely have suggestions to help keep your printing costs to a minimum. Helps You Make A Great First Impression You know you only get one chance. Whether it’s your small business’s website, your email signature, a direct mail advertisement, your business card, or even a social media post, viewers are going to judge a business in seconds based on its appearance alone.  Professional, high-quality graphic design will give your business credibility – and that’s priceless. You could indeed have the most outstanding product or service out there, but if it’s presented with a bad design, many people aren’t going to stick around long enough to find that out for themselves. Makes Your Business’s Image Consistent & Memorable High-quality professional graphic design work provides a uniform look and feel across every customer-facing aspect of your business. This applies to everything: your logo, social media, business cards, website, direct mail pieces.  A great graphic designer knows which fonts to use, how to leverage your color palette, and what “mood” should be in the images and supporting graphics on every piece.  Through this consistency across all of your marketing, you will appear more professional, trustworthy, and — most importantly — memorable. Professional Graphic Designers Understand “Brand” They understand the importance of brand equity and brand value. And they know precisely how to help you build and maintain a strong brand identity. Creative professionals take your vision and bring it to life. A good designer will incorporate your thoughts and add their ideas to develop more powerful visuals. They also know how to reinforce your organization’s core message and communicate it to your target audience. The development process for a good brand is exceptionally strategic. Before creating, a designer will first understand your business, culture, target audience, and competition.  The designer will then apply their knowledge of design principles, marketing trends, user behaviors, and color theory.  These elements combined result in a piece that will reinforce your brand and build customer loyalty. Professional Graphic Designers Have (& Know!) The Software Already Not only should they have the programs they need already, but they’re also already fluent in essential design programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop & InDesign. This eliminates your needing to learn any software when you’re doing this yourself. Professional Graphic Designers Know What Files Are Needed They design print products with the printer in mind, meaning minimal file setup mistakes.  Plus, they can deliver your logo to you in EVERY FILE TYPE you’d ever need. Ever. Professional designers have, on average, at least 2-4 years of training using state-of-the-art design programs.  Design pros know their way around terms like: Bleed CMYK Crop marks Image resolution Outlining fonts Packaging RGB Stitching Graphic design pros are experts at preparing files for print and foreseeing any possible issues to save you from costly mistakes.
