OEP Marketing + AdvertisingPromotional items, we have found, are a very polarizing topic within the marketing/business owner world. We have found that most business owners are on one extreme side of the spectrum. You have your first group who hate promotional products. They think they’re a waste of money. It doesn’t mean they won’t order some from time to time, but it’s like pulling teeth for them to do so. Then you have the business owner who is possibly too excited about promotional products. Everything has the business logo on it. Even their dogs are wearing a business-branded collars. Neither side is wrong or right. It is what it is. However, if you’re looking to get some promotional items for your business, we always advise getting an item of quality. Quality Promotional Items The best example we have of this is the ink pen. Yes, you can get a custom ink pen for 15-20 cents per item, but is anyone going to use it? Probably not. If an ink pen makes sense as a promotional product for your business, you want to get one that will hang around and people will use it. In our time, we’ve been around many offices, and we rarely see people using cheap pens. Those who use a pen frequently for work will seek a quality pen. You know that. If you want your pen to stay on a desk or clipped to a shirt in the field, don’t shy away from spending a little money on something that is quality. While we use pens in this example, think about it for other items before you place your order. Get a sample and use it yourself for a couple of weeks. If you’re getting a clothing item, get a sample and see how it fits. There is nothing worse than ordering a box of shirts or hats that will end up in the back of a closet or trash can instantly because of poor quality or overall poor fit. That $6 hat might seem enticing, but it doesn’t mean diddly-poo if no one is going to wear it. OEP Marketing + AdvertisingYou Are Not Your Customer Or Client After helping business owners with their marketing over the years, we have identified a fatal mistake that sometimes takes place. Before we get into it, we want to preface it by saying this isn’t every business owner. It’s not even a majority of them. But, it’s something we have seen through consultations and casual conversations. The fatal mistake we’re talking about is a business owner running their marketing and advertising with only themselves in mind. Basically, tailoring their marketing to their experience in life and not their clients. Let’s take the following business owner for example. Let’s say this business owner is successful and makes mid to high six figures a year. However, the target market for their product / service lies within the $60,000 – $200,000 yearly household income bracket. While they are successful, they aren’t the top dog in their market. The have some money to spend to augment their efforts and begin taking proposals for advertising and marketing. The business owner will be presented a solution or campaign and say something like, “Well, me and my family don’t use or watch that, so I don’t think it will work. I don’t want to do it.” This can rear its head the other way as well. “Well, me and my family do this / watch this / go to these websites so put my ads there. I think that will work and my friends will see my business.” Read the rest of this blog on OEPMA.com #customer #clients #marketing #advertising #marketingagency #advertisingagency #smallbusiness #business #marketinghelp #digitalmarketing #marketingtips #marketingideas

OEP Marketing + AdvertisingContent marketing is generally one of the more difficult concepts to get across to clients. At first blush, many don't really grasp what goal is trying to be accomplished. Here's a small case study. The content that was created for this law firm was a simple 30 page book that answered very common questions about the legal process. This book was offered for free in printed form and also via PDF online. It didn't offer any type of legal advise, it just factually answered questions. The answers to the frequently asked questions didn't give half-answers where the reader was left unsatisfied. It didn't have a bunch of legal mumbo-jumbo where the person felt outmatched and confused. It was honest, down to earth answers to questions that the firm realized people had in initial consultations. Here is where some business owners or law firm owners may say, "You're answering the questions that people call to ask. If they read it in a free book, they're not going to call me and I won't get the lead!" Months after the firm started giving these books out at events and tracking how many times it was being downloaded online, they noticed something. People began calling in referencing the book. Since their original questions were already answered, the reason they were calling is because their situation was a bit more complex. They noticed that these people calling in referencing the book had cases that were more complex and more valuable than other lead sources. When the person finally decided, "Hey, I need to call a lawyer," there wasn't a list of 10 lawyers they were going to call and shop. There was one. The one that gave them a book of information and answered their initial questions within their content. Don't get stuck on the "book" factor of this. The "content" can be anything from a blog post to a TikTok video. The point of this post is that you can give some of it away. Because giving some of it away will build trust in the people viewing your content. To answer the original question (what is the goal of content marketing?) building trust and positioning yourself as an authoritative source within your industry is the goal. #marketing #content
