The pandemic has brought a major shift in the purchasing behavior of MENA consumers. Brands must adapt to the digital shelf or lose to those that did. When consumers shop in stores or online, they are influenced by the product hierarchy principle. Each element on the product hierarchy is observed by the consumer in an order. In retail shopping, consumers first notice the color of the product, then the shape and design, and then finally the words written on it. In the online store, or as we called it the "digital shelf", two additional components are added : SEO and Social Proof. When the products are optimized for search engines, businesses get access to a wider audience who are searching for products that they have. To further drill down the credibility of the brand, Social Proof comes into play. It comes in the form of starred reviews, social shares or even seal of approvals from a higher authority.
