Art Mixed with Business. Like most people, I used to equate art and business as being opposites. After having had the privilege of working on film, I’ve realized that I was wrong. Business and art are both fueled by creativity and imagination. The difference is that art measures its success through the reception of its audience, whereas business prioritizes sustainability and profit. Film is the medium where profit and reception are equally important. Guatemala has an abundance of creative people. I truly believe their storytelling abilities can enchant the world. I admire it greatly because my creativity and imagination have always been focused on business and I feel much more confident with a business plan than a script. But I was surprised that this skill is also part of the creative process of film, and it is where I hope to make my mark and help spread the magic this amazing country has to offer to the world. Thurgood Business Development is a passion project that hopes to give the storytellers not only a space to produce films, but also the tools, connections, and opportunities to excel within the country. There shouldn’t be a need to leave the country to become a successful filmmaker, it’s been proven by a few industrious, determined and talented individuals that have managed to create world-renowned films that have opened the doors of opportunity for Guatemala, and given me the courage to follow through with this crazy dream that creative individuals are making a reality.
