David Spalding AgencyYou might be surprised to learn that ranking on Google has a lot to do with the categories you have selected for your business. There is an excellent free Chrome plugin (extension) called GMB Spy that allows you to view the categories that your competitors have selected. You can then use GMB Spy to learn about them. ⠀ ⠀ For instance, see the screen shot of the day spa listed below. They have only selected the category "Day spa." However, if they looked at their competitors' listings that rank higher, they would learn that there are other categories such as "Facial spa" that will allow them to rank higher and also, more importantly, enable them to get more phone calls and new clients. ⠀ ⠀ Caveat--you should only list categories that your business actually provides and that can be verified on your website. For instance, if you list the category of "Facial spa", you should have a service page that is called "Facials." It is becoming increasingly difficult to fool Google. David Spalding AgencyDrastic reduction in the amount of training hours (from 1,600 to just 600) AND NO HANDS ON TEST REQUIRED to legally perform hair services going into law in California starting January 2022. I did not follow the history of how this law was passed, but I think it could lead to a number of problems if there aren't support programs created for these new stylists to get additional hands-on training before they start doing services on their own clients. Up until the early 2000s, there were many large salons in California that offered quality salon assistant programs to newly licensed stylists but now many of those large, independent salons are no longer in business, so there aren't as many training programs available as in the past.
