The new FASB revenue recognition criteria are laid out in five steps: 1. Identify the contract with a customer 2. Identify the performance obligations in the contract 3. Determine the transaction price 4. Allocate the transaction price 5. Recognize revenue when or as the entity satisfies the performance obligation While these steps seem straightforward enough at first glance, they leave out the preparation and operational changes that must be made for compliance.
