We should always take time to reflect and consider whether our hearts and minds are well. 

Because of Red & Co.’s interest in pursuing wholeness across work and private life, we found it surprising how little support there is for emotional self-study. We track everything about ourselves: our steps to improve our health, our sleep to be more rested. We track heart rates, internet use, menstrual cycles, weight fluctuations –  but not how we feel, even though our mental well-being is an enormous part of our overall well-being.

So, when Gareth Dauncey, a Welsh architect and friend of the agency, shared his idea of tracking mood through color, we knew that a partnership could bring the concept to life. 

Gareth developed the idea when he realized that he hadn’t felt right for a while – but he wasn’t sure for how long or how bad things had gotten. He knew something needed to change. So with a set of colored pens and a calendar, he began to record his mood every day using color. Over weeks and months, this visual archive let him take charge of his well-being and gave him a new perspective. Along the way he found people who wanted to do the same. 

And that’s how Mood was born. Mood is a new mobile app that lets people track their moods with one tap a day and visualizes it through color. 

When a person downloads the app, they select a color and set their daily reminder. When the reminder pops up, they tap their mood on a gradient color scale. The lighter the mood, the lighter the shade. It takes three seconds, and users don’t even need to open the app. 

Over time, the person’s “mood stack” grows, creating a picture they can view by week, month, or year. Because Mood does not judge, prescribe, or explain, Mood allows reflection with no external pressure.

Mood is 100% PRIVATE. It cannot see, share, track, or sell a user’s information. And for each download, one copy of Mood is donated to an organization that helps people with their mental well-being.
